Reach Out and Read is only one of the ways in which volunteers can participate in Children of Bellevue programs.

Volunteers' Experiences

Joe Chan
After attending a Junior Committee Summer Bar Bash, Joe contacted the development office to find out how he could become more involved in pediatrics at Bellevue Hospital Center.

Judy Keating
As a niece of one of Bellevue’s Pediatric Clinic Nurse Practitioners, Judy understood the importance of Children of Bellevue’s mission.

Jane Magidson
Jane came to Bellevue via a volunteer referral service about six years ago. Having retired from the fashion world, she had hoped to finally make some use of her degree in psychology/sociology, and particularly requested a setting where she would work with children.

A Woman, Changed Belle Rothberg describes her Reach Out and Read volunteering to members of her synagogue who organized a book collection for the program. At 88, she is Reach Out and Read's oldest volunteer.

For the Love of Reading
Through her work as a bilingual program assistant for Reach Out and Read, Maureen Bradley discovered the significance of kindness, love, and empathy in affecting change in a child's life.

"How Can I Help?"
While Frank Meo has been a supporter Children of Bellevue for many years through his annual holiday toy drive and by attending special events, his reasons for participating in the organization have changed.

Illin' 2 Chillin'
Lyssa Patenaude has proven herself to be one of inpatient pediatric's most dedicated and innovative volunteers through her work on the unit since 1992 with Stephen Campbell, Supervising Children's Counselor.
